It’s next week: June 24 through June 30

Negroni Cupcake and the 100 Year Negroni from Market at EDITION

Drink up! It’s time to pay tribute to one of the world’s greatest cocktails: the Negroni, a sweet and bitter drink from Italy made with gin, vermouth, and Campari. From Monday, June 24, through Sunday, June 30, 10,00 venues from San Francisco to Sydney will whip up Negronis for a good cause during the sixth-annual Negroni Week 2019—which, this year, couples the 100th anniversary of the cocktail itself.

In honor of the occasion, the team behind Negroni Week has partnered with 30+ charities, and every participating venue picks one from the list to support. There are over 30 bars and restaurants in Miami participating this year. Read below to find out where we’ll be celebrating and why!

Novikov Miami

Order a Negroni at Novikov Miami {300 South Biscayne Boulevard, Downtown Miami; 305.489.1000}, and you’ll help raise money for the Arbor Day Foundation, the largest nonprofit membership organization dedicated to planting trees.

Matador Bar

Next week, head to Matador Bar {2901 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach; 786.257.4600} and get a bougie twist on the classic Negroni for $18, excluding tax and gratuity. This version is made with Wild Turkey Rare Breed, Campari, Cocchi Vermouth di Torino, and Grand Marnier Centenaire slow cooked with citrus peels. It is served on a 24k gold-flaked ice cube and finished with essence of Bergamot. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Matador Bar’s charity partner, the Surfrider Foundation.

Tanuki Miami

Located in the heart of South Beach, Tanuki Miami {1080 Alton Road, Miami Beach; 305.615.1055} is a trendy sushi and Pan-Asian hotspot just off Alton Road. Next week, it will offer two variations of the classic Negroni: the Golden Fields with Hiro Junmai Sake, Campari, and Antica Formula, and the Beekeeper with Barr Hill Cat Reserva, Campari, and Gonzalez Bypass. Both drinks are priced at $15 and will benefit No Kid Hungry.

Mr. C Coconut Grove

A new hotel brought to Coconut Grove by the Cipriani family, Mr. C Coconut Grove {2988 McFarlane Road, Coconut Grove; 305.800.6672} is already joining in the citywide celebrations. During Negroni Week, head to the hotel’s lobby outdoor garden, Il Giardino, between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. and get the classic cocktail for buy one, get one free. Proceeds from Negroni sales will benefit Trigger’s Toys.

Market at EDITION

Market at EDITION {2901 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach; 786.257.4600} is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Negroni in more ways than one. Guests can get the 100 Year Negroni—an ode to centennials living in the Italian village of Acciaroli, where the local rosemary is believed to be a factor in their good health—made with artichoke-infused Plymouth Gin, rosemary, orange-infused Campari, Lillet Blanc, and Antica Carpano. This twist on the classic is priced at $17, excluding tax and gratuity. For $5, excluding tax and gratuity, get the booze-filled Negroni Cupcake with rose-tinted icing, a rosemary sprig, and an orange peel garnish. A portion of the proceeds from both items will benefit No Kid Hungry.

Generator Miami

In honor of Negroni Week, The Jim and Neesie, a new restaurant inside Generator Miami {3120 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach; 786.496.5730}, will serve two special drinks: the Negroni Supreme (raspberry-infused gin, red pepper-infused Campari, Cocchi Vermouth di Torino, and pistachio extract) and the White Negroni (Pisco Torontel, Friulano vermouth, Cocchi Americano, and Peychaud’s and orange bitters). Head outside to Driftway bar, and you’ll find a Frozen Negroni with apricot-infused gin and lemongrass-infused select Cardamaro. All three drinks will be priced at $12 and benefit the Wild Foundation.

Dolce Italian

You better believe an Italian staple like Dolce Italian {1690 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach; 786.975.2550} knows how to make a good Negroni. Order the Barrel Aged Negroni with Tanqueray Malacca Gin, Campari, and Cocchi Vermouth di Torino (it’s only $8 during happy hour!) and proceeds will benefit the Surfrider Foundation.

The secret to the restaurant’s most popular salad

Caesar Salad Dressing from The Rusty Pelican

makes eight cups

Ingredients

1/4 c Worcestershire sauce
1/4 c balsamic vinegar
4 large garlic cloves
2 anchovy fillets
1 c lime juice, freshly squeezed or bottled
1 c Parmigiano Reggiano, grated
5 c canola oil
2 large eggs
Kosher salt, to taste
Fresh black pepper, to taste

Method

Fit a blender or food processor with a blade attachment. On high speed, blend the Worcestershire sauce, balsamic vinegar, garlic, anchovies, lime juice, and Parmigiano Reggiano until smooth. Reduce to low speed and add eggs until combined. In a steady stream, slowly add the canola oil while gradually increasing the speed of the blender—allowing the dressing to emulsify.

To serve: Season the dressing with salt and pepper, to taste. Keep refrigerated in an airtight container for up to five days.

The Rusty Pelican is located at 3201 Rickenbacker Causeway.

So you better get to Ocean Drive and order a slice

In America, we don’t mess around with pie. They’re a must-have at Thanksgiving dinners. They come in so many flavors, with so many different fillings, crusts, and toppings. Take that tradition down to South Florida, and we don’t mess around with our own version of the classic: Key Lime Pie.

Built into the Art Deco architecture Ocean Drive is known for is A Fish Called Avalon {700 Ocean Drive, Miami Beach; 305.532.1727}, another South Florida classic. A celebrated landmark for more than 30 years, this restaurant has become known for its romantic Atlantic Ocean views, perfect Ocean Drive location, and of course, Executive Chef Kal Abdalla’s exquisite sea-inspired cuisine. With its 1955 Oldsmobile convertible parked right out front, which just happens to be one of the most photographed vintage cars in America, its façade is undeniable. Add that to the fact that A Fish Called Avalon has served as the backdrop for scenes in some classic American films—like Scarface, Miami Vice, Sydney Pollack’s film Random Hearts, Old Dogs, and most recently, Will Smith’s Bad Boys 3—and this corner restaurant is pretty much a Miami Beach icon.

Just recently, one classic paired with another and magic happened. At the 25th Annual National Pie Championships®, which was hosted by the American Pie Council, A Fish Called Avalon’s Pecan Crusted Key Lime Pie dessert won the national title of “Best Key Lime Pie.” Taking place in Orlando, this event brought 470 amateur, professional, and commercial pie bakers from around the country together to compete in front of 200 professional judges from the United States and Canada.

Pecan Crusted Key Lime Pie from A Fish Called Avalon

Adding to a long list of the restaurant’s accolades, like OpenTable “Diner’s Choice” Winner and earning TripAdvisor’s 2018 Certificate of Excellence, having the “Best Key Lime Pie” gives foodies one more reason to visit the classic establishment. Per its team, sit down at A Fish Called Avalon and add to your dessert experience by pairing a slice of its award-winning Pecan Crusted Key Lime Pie with a French Gewurztraminer. Don’t have time to sit and indulge? Get that same award-winning pie to go. At A Fish Called Avalon, the world is your oyster—or in this case, a slice of Key Lime Pie.
