In addition to that, Miami is home to a great number of incredible chefs from around the world, so you can always count on variety when it comes to choosing where to go eat. BLT Prime Doral

It’s the start of a new decade, and BLT Prime Doral knows how to kick it off right. The famed restaurant has launched an oyster and martini pairing that includes a half dozen oysters paired with a martini (you can choose between Grey Goose vodka or Hendrick’s gin as the base), all for $20.20. Rejoice, oyster lovers, and get in on this special while it lasts — you likely won’t find a deal as good as this in Miami for another ten years.

A Fish Called Avalon

This Ocean Drive spot has been around for three decades — a feat that’s incredibly hard to pull off in Miami Beach, so you know the food is good. There’s live music every night on the front porch and great happy hour specials every day from 6-8 p.m., but the real draw here is the menu. Order the crab-crusted grouper in a Chenin blanc butter sauce, or share the orzo seafood paella with someone special — it’s big enough for two and comes with Maine lobster, shrimp, sea scallops, mussels and more.

Seaspice

Gorgeous views of the Miami River and downtown skyline. The sound of the water lapping gently just steps away from your table. The scent of herbs and smoking wood wafting toward you from the kitchen. Welcome to Seaspice. Frequented by celebrities and locals alike, Seaspice serves a globally inspired menu brimming with all kinds of tasty creations, but seafood lovers should definitely try one of the restaurant’s famous platters. There are three options, the most extravagant of which includes two pounds of lobster, eight jumbo prawns, 24 oysters, Alaskan king crab, two ounces of Osetra caviar, sashimi, hamachi, and ceviche.

Come to Seawell for a taste of classic Americana with a twist, all expertly curated by Chef Julian Garriga. You’ll find all the staples here, from creamy clam chowder and lobster rolls, to beer-battered fish n’ chips and a rotating daily catch sourced from day boats — all served in a casual, nautical setting. Pair your seafood pick with one of the restaurant’s amazing cocktails (the Tavern Spritz is our current favorite).

A go-to for happy hour, brunch and date night, Lobster Bar Sea Grille checks all the boxes for a great seafood restaurant experience: a buzzing atmosphere, upscale design, and a great menu featuring both freshly caught and imported seafood. There’s plenty of fantastic options to choose from here, including a full raw bar menu that ranges from stone crab claws from Key West, to a magnificent shellfish tower. And if you’re a fan of caviar, you’ll find lots of delicious picks — we’re partial to the Siberian Baerii.

Garcia’s Seafood Grille & Fish Market

When Garcia’s opened in 1966, it was initially a fish market and wholesaler. Today, this local institution is repeatedly rated as one of the best places to eat seafood in Miami. Still family-owned, Garcia’s serves fish caught fresh off Florida’s coast every day by its own team. Start with Garcia’s famous fish dip and order some cracked conch fried or grilled. And if you’re having a tough time deciding on an entree, just ask your server for suggestions — everything here is delicious and fresh.

Seawell Fish N’ Oyster is a restaurant we’ve been eagerly anticipating for a while now. Chef Julian Garriga and his crew had been teasing the restaurant’s food at its sister bar Minnow up until its opening – and now it’s here. The verdict? Well worth the wait.

Incredible Value

The majority of starters and entrees won’t break the bank; prices typically fall into the ‘teens and twenties’ price range. And they’re big portions: Items like the smoked fish dip come with tons of saltines, the crabby patty aka crab cake is sizable, and the everything monkey bread can feed an entire table (and it’s just $7). Finding something this good and reasonably priced is rare on the beach. 


Quality Seafood

As you’d expect from the name, Seawell Fish N’ Oyster focuses on … well, fish and oysters. A daily menu highlights the restaurant’s fresh catches like black grouper, branzino, and Caribbean snapper – to name a few. This ever-changing menu ensures that diners always have something new to look forward to during every visit.

On the permanent menu, guests can enjoy highlights like peel n’ eat shrimp with clarified butter and Old Bay as well as a hearty lobster roll with kewpie mayo. The former, in particular, was one of our favorite dishes of the night. On its own with just Old Bay seasoning, the shrimp was spectacular. But dipping it in the warm butter took the dish to the next level – and had us raving about it for hours. On that note …


Fun Sauces 

In our opinion, sauces don’t get enough credit. They can elevate a ho-hum dish or take an already spectacular item even further. At Seawell, the latter is the case. Chef Garriga and his team pair their food with sauces that will make your taste buds dance.

That everything monkey bread we mentioned earlier? It’s made even better with the addition of whipped dill butter. Our already amazing black grouper? Paired with a citrus tarragon butter, it blew our minds. And the Serrano Leche de Tigre that came with our yellowtail snapper Crudo didn’t disappoint either. 


Varied Options

You don’t have to be a seafood fan to enjoy Seawell. Yes, the menu is predominantly seafood, but the non-fish options are just as tasty. A hefty poutine with ‘nduja gravy, fried chicken with tabasco honey, and a 16-ounce ribeye showcase the kitchen’s versatility and talent.

You can tell the staff put their heart into everything, from the starters and entrees all the way to the side dishes; veggies like charred broccoli, roasted butternut squash mushrooms shine with elements like Calabrian chili pesto, cacio e pepe butter and caper raisin vinaigrette (again with the sauces).

No meal is complete without something to drink, and the restaurant has put together a short-yet-impressive libation list. Guests seeking something sweet can refresh themselves with the Angel of the Morning (vodka, St. Germain, strawberry, lemon) or Tavern Spritz (lillet blanc, white port, aperol, bubbles), while the whiskey-based Sea Wolf and Billy Budd take care of the other end of the flavor spectrum.

Washington Avenue’s new boutique property unveils a re-imagined hotel and a New England seafood concept this fall

When hotelier Marc Lawrence and his late brother, Eric, first purchased what would become the Angler’s Hotel in 2005, they did so with the intention of turning it into a condo hotel. But, with the economic crash that followed the completion and delivery of the property, they found themselves on course for a new kind of adventure: as hotel owners located on, what was then, the less-than-desirable Washington Avenue.

“With Washington Avenue in real disrepair, people thought we were crazy at the time for taking such a big risk,” says Lawrence, head of LBL Group, the full-service real estate company also founded by the two brothers. “The storefronts were blighted, the street was all but forgotten, and the once historic hotel had fallen into disarray. It was truly sad. But we took a leap of faith, and today, Angler’s is a shining mark on the now re-emerging destination.”

Fast forward to 2019, and the area’s checkered past is barely a memory. Now managed and operated by Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, Kimpton Angler’s shines at the corner of Sixth Street and Washington Avenue, serving as the anchor for South Beach’s historic district.

With the help of the Washington Avenue Business Improvement District, on which Lawrence proudly serves as a board member, and a variety of incentives put in place by a Blue Ribbon Panel, Washington Avenue is transforming into a thoughtfully curated destination neighborhood complete with new hotels, boutique shopping, inviting restaurants, the New World Symphony & Soundscape Park, museums, and The Fillmore Miami Beach. As for Kimpton Angler’s, the sophisticated hotel has become Miami’s chic retreat in the center of it all where past meets present.

The story of today’s Kimpton Angler’s Hotel unfolds with a stunning design inspired by Miami’s rich heritage celebrated throughout the original historic hotel and the new building that opened in 2018. Together, the two buildings house 132 guest rooms, living room lobby, meeting and event spaces, and the panoramic rooftop pool and sun deck. Popular among locals and visitors alike, this pet-friendly property is quickly becoming known for its relaxed Minnow Bar with a creative spirits-focused menu of herb-infused cocktails and indoor and outdoor seating, making it ideal for people-watching. Guests also love the outstanding service and approachable vibe.

Serving as a bespoke “hotel within a hotel” with its loft-style duplexes and three-story poolside bungalows, the renovation and redesign of the historic building is set to be completed later this year, along with what will surely be Washington Avenue’s new pride and joy—Seawell Fish n’ Oyster.

“We’re going to be a New England-inspired seafood restaurant,” Lawrence says. “We’re filling a niche, and since I’m from the northeast, we’re doing food that I love. When you talk about lobster rolls, fish, and all different kinds of clams, crabs, and of course, oysters—seafood staples that aren’t really around South Florida—that’s what we’re going to bring here. I’m psyched about it!”

After the completed renovations and Seawell Fish n’ Oyster are unveiled later this year, this South Beach gem will have even more reasons to keep guests coming back again and again.

Lawrence added, “Angler’s is like a refuge—when people come here, they can see that both the guests and the employees are happy. We have a cool, chill vibe that is welcoming and genuine. I feel so blessed and grateful to be a part of it.”
