Waffle Sandwich from Rusty Pelican

Everybody loves a little Southern charm once in awhile, and at this year’s Southern Kitchen Brunch hosted by Trisha Yearwood at the Food Network & Cooking Channel South Beach Wine & Food Festival, we got it. Taking place at the breathtaking Loews Miami Beach Hotel, this event brought together some of Miami and beyond’s best restaurants, food, and country music lovers alike for a Southern-style Sunday brunch to the stars.

Starting promptly at 11:30 a.m., this boozy brunch is one of the festival’s most coveted eventsand that’s obvious when you see the throngs of attendees lining up outside the door, all plotting to get the best seat in the house. When we got inside, we were blown away. Surrounding a sea of polka dot- and tulip-clad round tables, chefs and restaurants (like Rusty Pelican, Stiltsville Fish Bar, and WHISK Gourmet Food + Catering, to name a few) were ready to hand out a mix of savory and sweet plates to the thousands of guests who couldn’t wait to get a bite. And at the start of that line? None other than country music star Trisha Yearwood, who looked perfectly primped and comfortable in her blazer and sneakers, and gave us a big, warm smile as soon as we walked up. After we took a photo with her, we filled our arms with as many plates as we could carry and stopped by the bar for a Bulleit bacon Bloody Mary or a Bellini on the way back to our table. From that point on, it was all wining, dining, and mingling until Trisha Yearwood got on stage to sing some of her biggest hits. (Swoon!)
Needless to say, for brunch lovers and country music fans, this Sunday morning was one for the books.
