Musimelange (January 27-April 6, 2020)

Musimelange

French violinist Anne Chicheportiche’s inspiration for founding Musimelange—a multi-sensory concert experience in its Ninth Season at the Design District’s M Building—comes from her French roots. Musimelange pairs chamber music with gastronomy and wine tasting in order to recreate the tradition of France’s Belle Epoque, when public figures, artists, writers, and musicians met and gathered in hopes of inspiring ideas and creativity. Each month features a new restaurant providing luscious bites and a musical performer to serenade guests. The dates for the 2020 season are Jan. 27, Feb. 17, March 9, and April 6. Concerts begin at 7:30 pm and tickets are $55 online and $65 at the door.

Party with a Purpose (February 1, 2020)

Party with a Purpose

South Pointe Tavern Opens in South of Fifth
Now open in the luxurious South of Fifth neighborhood, South Pointe Tavern is a casual and intimate tavern, fit for locals and tourists alike. It has the largest menu of whiskeys and tequilas in Miami Beach, a custom cocktail program created by Robert Ferrara of Distilled Hospitality, and serves artisanal food like ceviches, crudos, flatbreads, salads, charcuterie plates, paninis, and more. Look around the restaurant and you’ll see artwork hanging on the walls that’s as inventive and creative as the place itself; like Picasso, the Rolling Stones, Andy Warhol, Basquiat, Jack Kerouac, Sophia Loren, Brigitte Bardot, Bob Dylan, and Catherine Deneuve, to name a few.
ORA Opens on South Beach with Hot New Cocktail Program
Opening on Collins Avenue, the haute new nightlife spot, ORA, is the first nightclub-meets-cocktail-bar hybrid to offer white glove mixology as part of its table and bar service. Helmed by veteran mixologist Rodger Gillespie, this spot replaces traditional “bottle service” and mixers with table-side assigned mixologists that will work with guests to create specialty cocktails with locally-sourced ingredients right in front of their very eyes. Now on Miami Beach, everyone’s favorite upscale Asian hotel, The Setai, Miami Beach, has added a tableside Japanese Beer and Sake Cart to its signature restaurant, Jaya at The Setai {2001 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach; 305.520.6000}.

Along with the restaurant’s modern Asian cuisine by Chopped winner and Executive Chef Matthew Gervais, Jaya diners can now choose from special Japanese and imported beers–like Echigo Koshihikari Rice BeerOze No Yukidoke IPA and Singha–as well as local Miami favorites, like Funky Buddha and The Floridian. As for Sake, the cart has plenty of handpicked options: including Flying Pegasus Daiginjo Koshu, Soto Junmai Daiginjo, Minato Harbor Yamahai Nama Genshu, or Dewatsuru Sakura Emaki Rose.

From 11am-4pm, the elegant steakhouse at Gulfstream Park will host a very special Mother’s Day brunch buffet featuring a variety of gourmet stations serving both breakfast and lunch options. Breakfast offerings include a home-baked bread station with homemade waffles, pancakes, bagels, and more, as well as a custom omelet and fresh fruit station. Lunch options will feature shellfish, sushi, and pasta stations, plus a meat-carving station and various entrées. $49 per adults; $20 for children 10. Adena’s regular à la carte dinner menu will be available from 4-10pm.

The acclaimed Delray Beach restaurant that recently opened in Midtown invites guests to Mother’s Day brunch from 11am-4pm. Specials include Stracciatella with pickled cantaloupe, watermelon, and crispy prosciutto; Bouillabaisse of mussels, clams, shrimp, octopus, and tomato broth atop cuttlefish capellini; and Rib-Eye with roasted fennel, fingerling potatoes, and saba reduction.

From May 6-8, the Biltmore’s signature French restaurant, Palme d’Or invites guests and their mothers to a spectacular six-course tasting menu with a complimentary glass of Champagne to toast the occasion. Chef Pierluigi Angioi has created Mother’s Day deals on several signature dishes, including a beautifully plated Whole Branzino, Oysters Rockefeller, and Seafood Paella. In addition, the restaurant is offering bottomless Syltbar sparking rosé for $25 per person, along with $7 Bloody Marys, $5 mimosas, and amazing select wines by the glass for $6. Not to mention, select oysters will be half-off all day long.

Order either one with the restaurant’s new Basil Bellini, a refreshing cocktail of prosecco, peach purée, a touch of housemade basil syrup, and ground local sweet basil.

The Setai Courtyard

The Setai Miami Beach {2001 Collins Avenue; 305.520.6000}, one of SoBe’s most chic and elegant hotels, is hosting an evening of “sophistication and folly” for New Year’s Eve with the theme “La Belle Époque.”

Start your evening off at JAYA, the hotel’s brand-new Asian-inspired restaurant, with a five-course gala dinner featuring a “St. Sylvestre” menu that includes Foie Gras, Eggs 62, Scallops Melba, Short Ribs Bordelaise, and a Chocolate Variation. Dinner starts at 7pm and is priced at $555.

The series continues at this month StripSteak by Michael Mina with a decadent five-course menu prepared by Chef de Cuisine Derrick Roberts complemented by beverages from Moët & Chandon.

What: The award-winning Setai hotel unveils its newest restaurant concept, Jaya, a bold and modern Asian-inspired restaurant. The restaurant is a partnership with Chef Mathias Gervais, who announced the new concept shortly after winning Food Network’s hit cooking show “Chopped.” Jaya is a sure win, too, thanks to its vibrant menu inspired by regional dishes of Japan, China, India, Korea, Vietnam, and Thailand. Jaya, which means “victory” in Sanskrit, was chosen to honor The Setai’s renowned interior designer, Jaya Ibrahim, and the hotel’s first decade of successful Asian-inspired hospitality. Menu highlights include the Egg Steam Bun with poached egg, bacon, cucumber relish, and caramel ginger; the Pork Bao Bun with grilled peach, cilantro, and Chinese barbecue; and the Thali Platter (pictured above), a traditional Indian dish with chicken, fish, and okra.

What: From the same people who brought you Segafredo Espresso L’Originale on Lincoln Road comes Segafredo Bayside, a state-of-the-art kiosk with a full self-contained kitchen and an expansive bar at Bayside Marketplace in Downtown Miami. The restaurant is celebrating its grand opening with a party that’s open to the public with complimentary prosecco and a live show by Spam Allstars. The 580-square-foot kiosk and 2,500-square-foot outdoor space features the signature Segafredo red-and-black tabletops, its branded color red throughout in addition to an extensive craft cocktail menu with favorites such as the Aperol Spritz and the Pimm’s Cup.

Acclaimed French pastry Chef Dominique Ansel (of his eponymous New York City bakery) is heading to SoBe for Art Basel to launch a special pop-up experience at The Setai {2001 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach; 888.625.7500}.

From noon to midnight on Wednesday, December 2, the award-winning chef will set up an exclusive soft serve ice cream window featuring delicious frozen treats–perfect for Art Baselers looking for a midday refresher or late-night dessert.

Featured flavors include: Caramel Stout (chocolate “caviar” with sea salt brownie) and Burrata Soft Serve (balsamic caramel with confit strawberry and micro-basil). Each super-creamy flavor is made with fresh milk (as opposed to a mix or a powder) and is served in a homemade, hand-rolled honey tuile cone.

Dining at Cipriani Downtown Miami is like dining aboard a lavish mega-yacht. We love StripSteak for its dynamic dining scene, signature steaks, and contemporary cocktailing inside the iconic Fontainebleau Miami Beach. We also love James Beard Award-winning Chef Michael Mina, the mastermind behind it all. And the elegant, two-story, indoor/outdoor design? We can’t get enough. 25. The Effortlessly Chic Cibo

“If you’re going to do something, do it right.” We imagine that was the thought process behind this three-story den of design, with inspiration blooming from every nook and cranny. Occupying more square footage than any other kid on the block, Cibo Wine Bar South Beach fills 20,000 square feet from top to bottom. Everything down to the glassware was designed by Nadia Di Donato in a style that could be described as industrial chic. The wraparound bar—composed of steel, wood, and glass—is situated to the right upon entering, and high-top butcher-block tables give the room a casual appeal.

The more formal dining room sits to the left of the entrance, while an open kitchen spans the entire back wall. Bathed in warm hues, elegant booths line the windows separated by hanging sheets of gauze while playful glass balls mimic a giant mobile, adding an element of movement to the room. The wall to the right is actually a chamber of wines—so many, in fact, that a suspended “wine angel” retrieves bottles from the top tier (catch her flying around every night after 5pm). From the ground floor, take the concrete steps (or elevator) up to the second floor, which is entirely dedicated to the washrooms.

Reminiscent of a spa, giant cedar plank doors protect the individual stalls, made even sturdier with turn-of-the-century door latches. You can wash your hands in the privacy of his or hers, but we recommend the communal “hand showers” that overlook the bar and lounge below. Enjoy the open-air atmosphere of the top floor, but seek out the tiny enclosed bar to the left—worth visiting for a specialty craft cocktail and a plate of antipasti.
