BLT Steak at Betsy South Beach

Easter Sunday is less than a week away! Do you know what your plans are? Executive Chef Laurent Tourondel (the “LT” of BLT) has created a delectable menu with enticing selections all to be enjoyed in the beautiful dining area of the storied beachfront hotel’s main floor.

For appetizers, choose the Sweet Pea and Avocado Soup or the Porcini-Crusted Lamb Carpaccio; for the main course, choose the Lake Meadow Farms Eggs en Cocotte or the BLT Short Rib Sliders; and for dessert, choose the Banana Kuchen or the Challah Bread Pudding. And, of course, there will be plenty of the restaurant’s famous Popovers to go around.

The South Beach Hotel Group owns some of Miami’s funkiest boutique hotels, and they come alive each season witht he official kickoff of Art BAsel. Each property is unique, offering eclectic, hand-picked décor from across the globe. Inspired by Moroccan design, Maxine’s at the Catalina Hotel  boasts chairs from Egypt as well as lamps found in Morocco by Owner Alan Lieberman during his travels there. The teak tables at Fung Ku were all sliced, treated, and glazed by Lieberman himself. The newest addition to the collection is The Tavern at Hotel Croydon, which displays murals by Marcello Ibanez, whom Lieberman discovered on Instagram. You don’t have to look far to find advice about food and wine pairing; there are countless articles and books dispensing the rules and science behind making a good match. The approach at Uvaggio is simple: “If it grows together, it goes together.” In other words, wine and food both have a sense of place, and their origins contribute to their nuanced flavors. Stefano Campanini started his career as an art dealer many years ago in NYC before opening Etra Gallery in Miami, which he still runs. Estiatorio Milos by Costas Spiliadis is a work of art from start to finish. While some of the fish and seafood on the menu is local, the majority is flown in fresh from the Mediterranean Sea and artfully displayed on ice. Guests are invited to get up from their tables and inspect the presentation as if it really were a work of art. 23. The Vibrant Walls of Wynwood Kitchen
Wynwood Kitchen & Bar is a staple in Miami’s Art District, reflecting its diverse nature and multimedia dynamic. Developed along with the Wynwood Walls by Goldman Properties in 2009, Wynwood Kitchen & Bar is the original destination in this art haven. At first glance, WKB might be mistaken for a gallery, as there are sculptures, murals, and other installations on premise. Still, it’s the vibrant art from famed street artists like Shepard Fairey, Os Gemeos, Kenny Scharf, and Faile & Bast that really put Wynwood Kitchen in a class of its own.

24. Curated Art at Adena Grill & Wine Bar
Adena Grill & Wine Bar has a warm and inviting atmosphere with a blend of Old-World ambience alongside a casual and modern vibe—and it’s one of our favorite new steakhouses in town. You’ll dine in style beneath Swarovski crystal chandeliers dangling from the vaulted ceiling, while large vases of fresh, delicate orchids dot the main dining tables. But it’s the art on the walls that really draws the eye. Highly acclaimed Russian artist Anna Razumovskaya was commissioned to hand-paint the scenic murals. One of the things we love most about Miami Spice is that it doesn’t just last for one month, it lasts for two whole months. We love that Celebrity Chef Laurent Tourondel likes to keep things interesting—his blackboard menu changes daily—and that means he’s entirely revamped his Spice menu for the month of September. For appetizers, our hands-down first choice is the Veal and Pork Meatballs. Chef Tourondel served these babies up for us during a special preview dinner last March, and we’ve been dreaming about them ever since! For entrées, it’s a toss-up between the 12oz CAB Coulotte and the Grilled Black Tiger Prawns. To round out the meal, you’ll also be able to choose your own side and melt-in-your-mouth dessert. But that’s not all! Even though it’s Miami Spice, you’ll still receive the complimentary goodies that are brought to every table at dinner: Chicken Liver Mousse with artisan bread and pickled vegetables, and the famous giant Popovers dusted with Gruyère cheese.

There’s nothing more disappointing than arriving at your planned restaurant of the evening, sitting down at your table, and then having your server tell you: “We’re not offering our Miami Spice menu right now.” With many establishments placing restrictions on when their specials are actually available, it’s comforting to know that at Bulla, it’s always time for Spice. Just last week, the Spanish restaurant rolled out updated Spice menus, featuring items such as the Albóndigas de Cordero (lamb meatballs), Branzino a la Vasca, and the Torrija dessert. As an added bonus, for both lunch and dinner, you can enjoy TWO glasses of any of Bulla’s popular sangrías for just $10.

For Miami Spice, the Conrad Miami’s signature restaurant is serving up some of its classic dishes and seasonal favorites. For appetizers, we recommend the crisp Waldorf Salad, followed by the Pan-Roasted Monkfish, which is served with confit garlic, Mediterranean baby vegetables, and red wine reduction. And for dessert, don’t miss out on the gooey Chocolate Coulant Cake served with salted caramel ice cream. Plus, if you’re looking for a quick power lunch, Atrio’s got you covered. Simply ask for the special “Taste of Time” menu, which guarantees (if you so choose) that you’ll be in and out in 45 minutes or less. An hourglass will be placed on your table at the start of the meal; and if your meal isn’t completed in time, your lunch is on the house.

Celebrity Chef Scott Conant’s menu at Scarpetta at the Fontainebleau is drool-worthy any time of year. But during Miami Spice, it becomes even more enticing. The restaurant recently revamped its Spice menu, giving you even more options to savor. For appetizers, we recommend the Creamy Polenta, which is served alongside a medley of truffled mushrooms (which happen to be a specialty of the restaurant this time of year). Continue the experience with the Short Rib Agnolotti Dal Pin before ending with the traditional dolce: Almond Panna Cotta. If you’re not in the mood for Italian, Fontainebleau’s three other flagship restaurants—Hakkasan, Michael Mina 74, and StripSteak—have also updated their Spice menus for the month of September.

Next, you’ll select THREE options from an expansive menu that includes several “Verduras,” seven types of “Carnes y Mariscos,” and three “Fruits and Vegetables” dishes. Tickets are required ($65 per person) and include access to the hotel’s two resort-style pools.

Those not wanting to purchase tickets can still join in the fun. Now a worldwide brand, Wolfgang’s operates eight locations throughout the United States, with outposts in Tokyo and Seoul, and several others coming soon.

Tucked away inside the exclusive Setai Hotel is the romantic Setai Grill. Executive Chef Mathias Gervaise and Chef de Cuisine Denevin Miranda have recently added a surprising Asian twist to the menu while still offering an unmatched selection of exclusive cuts of dry-aged meat from New York City’s highly respected butcher Pat LaFrieda & Son. Be sure to try the new six-course prix-fixe menu for only $115, with the option of an additional $65 per person to include wine pairing.

5. Morton’s The Steakhouse {multiple locations}
“The best steak … anywhere!” is just around the corner. Whether you choose to dine at the Morton’s in Brickell, Coral Gables, or North Miami Beach, you know that you’ll be getting the same quality meats and impeccable service that made Morton’s a favorite when it debuted in Chicago in 1978. Morton’s continues to wow visitors in cities throughout the United States and beyond.

Chef Michael Mina has done it again with Fontainebleau’s newest restaurant. This hip eatery inside Miami Beach’s trendiest hotel is a contemporary alternative to the traditional steakhouse setting, offering à la carte cuts of beef (many from the hotel’s on-site aging room and butcher shop). Be sure to stop by the StripSteak Lounge on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings, when DJ Elle is present.

It was only two months ago that Quality Meats (voted the No. 1 steakhouse in Manhattan by Zagat Survey in 2014) made its Miami debut inside a historic Art Deco hotel on bustling Collins Avenue. The SoBe eatery has already proven to provide the same sophistication and superior cuisine as its New York counterpart. Partner and Executive Chef Craig Koketsu’s meat-centric menu features variations of only the best quality beefs, which are all cured, aged, and smoked onsite.

Situated inside the Four Seasons Hotel, EDGE is a hidden gem just waiting to be discovered. Executive Chef Aaron Brooks serves up a delicious menu of fresh dishes featuring only farm-to-table ingredients. If you’re lucky, try to score a table on the lively rooftop terrace so that after dinner, you can melt your own s’mores in front of the fire.

PM Fish & Steak House is the Argentinian answer to a traditional American steakhouse. All meats are cooked on the restaurant’s signature grill. Because PM also specializes in fish, we recommend the Surf & Turf Puerto Madera, a combination of lobster (Bogavante from Maine) and Prime tenderloin.

On Monday, March 9, 20 incredible women gathered at BLT Steak at the Betsy Hotel {1440 Ocean Drive, Miami Beach; 305.531.6100} for a breakfast salon in honor of International Women’s Day.

It was a who’s who of Miami’s influential women, all of whom work in and/or vehemently support the arts, music, education, and other community-driven initiatives. Invitees were asked to bring along a woman that they admired—mothers, daughters, friends, mentors, co-workers, and more. It was clear that in most cases, the admiration was reciprocal.

While many might associate BLT Steak with being only a lunch/dinner place, the quiet art-filled dining room—which opens daily at 8am—was the perfect setting for such an event. We sipped coffee and freshly-squeezed orange juice while noshing on fresh fruit, mini croissants and pastries, and creamy granola-topped parfaits. The Betsy is also known for its outstanding brunch—don’t miss out on trying the BLT Popover Eggs Benedict, a Betsy favorite.

The Betsy has been involved in women’s issues since its founding. After all, the hotel is named after America’s “founding mother” Betsy Ross. It is also very active in the local community, sponsoring salons that invite artists and thought leaders to head up conversations about various issues. The salons are one of the cornerstones of the PACE (Philanthropy, Arts, Culture, and Education) program at The Betsy. Since opening The Writer’s Room in 2012, there have been over 70 such events, featuring many prominent art world figures, such as “Joy Luck Club” novelist Amy Tan and flutist Eugenia Zuckerman.

International Women’s Day was the perfect occasion for such a salon. The annual event has been celebrated since the early 1900’s and today is recognized as an official holiday by countries all over the world.
